Almost the "Big" day

One would think I had nothing better to do than to blog about my baby's 1st birthday party (that I just happen to be throwing along with my sister's 40th) and such. . . Well I don't have anything better to do, thus that's what I'm gonna talk about, LOL. The big day is almost here and I'm getting excited, why? Because I LOVE PARTIES!!!!! So the planning is just coming right along. I finally decided on the cakes that I want. At first I was gonna do one cake because I was having a caribbean theme. Then I had to scratch that cuz I didn't have anything solid for the lady who I asked to do the catering. So I switched and made an entirely new dinner menu (Whole Foods Catering) and picked out new cakes too (because I couldn't find the link to the original cake I'd picked). Well I found this cake lady in my area who totally said she could do both the cakes I want. I picked a purse cake for my sister and a small "baby" cake for my baby. I'm soooo excited! Here are pics of both the purse and the "baby" cake.

And here is the other one

I even bought all the decorations, which are just basic cream and white. Recently I decided to use actual plates, glasses, flatware and cloth napkins because I was reading in Real Simple Solutions magazine about how its better for the environment to not always buy paper plates, cups, napkins, etc AND how in the end you'll save money. Then I thought about it and just thought about all the money we spent this year alone buying those items for small parties and small family gatherings etc, and we spent WAY more total, than what I spent on buying real dishes that I can use over and over and over again. It seems crazy, I know. But I was on a mission and was a bargin shoppin fool. K-Mart like ALWAYS has sells and I just LOVE the Martha Stewart brand. So I bought dinner plates, spoons, folks, glasses AND wine glasses. And them suckers were cheap too. I mean I spent $12 on a 12 piece dinner plate set, about $6 on a set of 6 wine glasses and I found a set of 12 glass tumblers (16oz) for $6.99. All at K-Mart, LOL. I could be a dayum spokes person. ha!

So with all that being done, the only thing left is to finalize the invitations. My Hunny wanted to do them as his part of the party planning. He usually does all the designs for our parties. Of course since I'm an OVER planner (do they have meetings for this?) I jumped on the ScrapBook thingy disk he bought me and did a little design myself. But I'm not an expert and that's as far as I got so I turned the rest over to him.

Well, I'm off now. Ms. Senayet wants me to rewind Elmo and put on the Bear in the big Blue house cd, besides that I need to make some phone calls and feed my greedy little face. I'm off . . . .*smoochies*

Oh my goodness- firstly I looooove parties too! Planning them is so much fun. The first cake is beyond cute and the one for your little princess is so pretty! Real Simple is my favorite magazine, they really do give excellent tips. And lastly now you've made me have to go find a Kmart this week. I adore Martha's products and for a sale like that I must go find some lovely things.
